Slow start continues for Tasmania Tridents

by Rob McGuire on February 21, 2023

Things haven’t gone as well as hoped for the Tasmania Tridents at Bowls Premier League #17 which is being played at the Moama Bowling Club this week with the Tridents winning just one of their first seven games but will take confidence from winning their final two games of day two to finish the day in last position.

In their first game today, the Tridents played well but couldn’t get over the line against the Morteton Bay Pirates drawing the first set 5 all and narrowly losing the second set 3-4.

The Tridents recorded their first win of the competition in spectacular style in their second game today against the Gold Coast Hawks winning the first set 8-2 and trailed 1-6 after four ends of the second set before scoring six shots on the final end thanks to a great shot from Taelyn Male to win the second set 7-6.

The Tridents third game of the day against Tweed Heads Osprey was live streamed on the Bowls Australia Facebook page and went to a tiebreaker.   The Tridents won the first set in a very tight game 3-2 but lost the second set 5-8 before  losing the tie breaker 0-1.

In their final game on day two, which was shown live on Fox Sports and Kayo, the Tridents lost in straight sets to Melbourne Extreme 2-5 and 5-7.

Ladder at the end of day two:

  1. Moama Steamers 18 points
  2. Tweed Head Ospreys 18 points
  3. Sydney Lions 15 points
  4. Adelaide Pioneers 12 points
  5. Melbourne Pulse 9 points
  6. Moreton Bay Pirates 9 points
  7. Melbourne Extreme 9 point
  8. Perth Suns 6 points
  9. Gold Coast Hawks 6 points
  10. Tasmania Tridents 3 points

The event continues on Wednesday with five games being played by the Tasmania Tridents including round twelve against Tweed Heads Osprey which will be televised live on Fox Sport and Kayo at 6.30pm.
