Veolia State Wide Challenge – Open & Juniors RD3
Tomorrow will see the final rounds of the Open and Junior Divisions of the Veolia State Wide Challenge. The men’s and women’s open teams will fight it out at the Beltana Bowls Club in Hobart, while the juniors will conclude their final round at their hosts Longford.
With every up for grabs tomorrow each region will be not only fighting for their own individual divisions shield but also for much needed points towards the grand overall trophy that will be decided at the conclusion of the Senior division on March 1st.
In the women’s open division the North currently lead the way over the South by just a mere 12 points. The North will need to win both overall games tomorrow to take the trophy from the defending champs down South. The South have the chance to claim double points tomorrow with a strong second side in action, however it will be a matter of who wins the North versus South games that will determine the overall winner.
In the men’s open division the North West have the event all but wrapped up with a 45 point lead going into this round. The South remain the only region that have any chance of stealing the trophy from the defending champions with double points available to them as the home region. With 56 points on offer for the day, the South would need to claim at least 51 of those points to snatch the men’s shield back from the North West.
The fight for the junior shield also remains a two region race, between the North and South. Defending champions North sit only 11.25 behind the experienced Southern team who are in first place.
