Lawn bowls Senior Pairs championships underway
Almost 110 bowlers took to the greens at Cosgrove Park, North Launceston and Trevallyn today to compete in sectional play rounds of the Men’s and Women’s Pairs Championships as part of Bowls Tasmania’s State Senior (Over 60’s) Bowls Championships which are being held in Launceston until Wednesday.
Sectional play winners in the Men’s Pairs were Greg Douce and Mitch Billing, Ian Moore and Peter Hutchins, Mick Daniels and Shane Young and Chris Martyn and Ricky Limbrick who all went through sectional play undefeated. Peter Barrett and Peter Zoon and Mike Gaffney, and Rob Sims made it to the finals with two wins and a draw each. The remaining sections were much closer. Wayne Manson and Peter French won their section narrowly with a margin of +8 shots and John Borg and Dennis Bassett won with a margin of+21 shots.
In the Women’s Pairs, sectional play winners were Maureen Zoon and Janet McCarthy, Judy Gurr and Denise Middap, Cheryl Fielding and Pam Vant and Bev Huett and Helen Sturzaker who were all undefeated. The remaining two sections were much closer. Di Byard and Julie Morris won their section narrowly with a margin of +8 shots and Vicki Winley and Trudy Rundle won two games and drew their last to sneak into the finals.

The Seniors Championships continue on Tuesday at North Launceston with quarterfinals in the Men’s and Women’s Pairs and finals in the Men’s and Women’s Fours Championships. The grand final of the Women’s Fours will be live streamed on the Bowls Tasmania Facebook page at 3.00pm.
The Seniors Championships conclude on Wednesday with semi-finals and the grand finals in the Men’s and Women’s Pairs Championships.
