High Performance

Bowls Tasmania has established a High-Performance Committee to assist key Bowls Tasmania staff and Bowls Tasmania board members with the planning, preparation, conduct and review of associated high-performance programs for the Tasmania Open, Senior, Under 18’s, Para and Bowls Premier League (BPL) teams.

As part of the High-Performance Committee’s ongoing commitment to developing and supporting our Junior, Open, Senior, and Para Lawn Bowls teams, it is introducing fortnightly regional training sessions.

These sessions are designed to provide regular, structured opportunities for skill development, team connection, and individual performance feedback in the lead-up to The Nationals 2026. Attendance will form an important part of our athlete preparation framework moving forward. We understand everyone has commitments, and we will aim to schedule sessions that are as accessible and inclusive as possible. Your ongoing engagement and commitment to your representative role is greatly appreciated.

These sessions will be supported by Bowls Tasmania appointed coaches and selectors, and we expect all selected athletes across the Junior, Open, Senior, and Para squads to attend unless a prior exemption has been approved.

TRAINING STRUCTURE:

At each session, athletes will be required to complete four designated drills, which focus on core technical and tactical skills. Performance data from these drills will be recorded and reviewed regularly.

These drills are Drawing, Positional Drawing, Controlled Conversion and Weighted Conversion.

We have included an instructional video (see link below) for you to watch prior to completing these drills, it is important we are all completing and scoring our drills in the same way, every time.

Athletes will receive individual feedback based on: Personal Bests (PBs), Averages, Identified strengths and Key areas for improvement. This feedback will help guide your development and ensure consistent progression throughout the season.

We acknowledge that some players are currently away from the state. If you have the ability to complete your drills fortnightly and send us the result sheets, it would be greatly appreciated.

If for some reason you are unable to attend, or you will be attending outside of your normal region, please contact Courtney Hobbs, on 0400 604 216, or email courtneyhobbsis@hotmail.com prior to the session. Do not contact Coaches/Managers/Selectors, all attendance information must be notified to Courtney Hobbs.
