Upcoming Sport and Recreation run workshops.

by admin on September 18, 2014

As you can see from the text below, Sport & Rec are
delivering a diverse range of courses for the community.

Member
Protection Information Officer (MPIO) Workshops – Hobart and Burnie

This would be a good opportunity to ‘train up’ more MPIO’s
for your region, or indeed, at individual clubs.

Please pass this email on to your respective clubs, as a
trained MPIO person attached to a club would be of benefit.

Bowls Tasmania would like to recommend that each Regional
body have a trained MPIO person on their Board or linked committees.

As such, we encourage each Regional body to identify an
individual to undertake the workshop.

more information.

Free Community
Sports Governance Forums – Hobart, Launceston and Burnie

Correct governance, and following best business practices at
Regional and Club level is becoming increasingly important, now more than ever.

Our Regional Bowls Manager, Simon Morrison, is very active with clubs in this
area, and I’m sure he’s recommended workshops like this to you already.

Bowls Tasmania recommend that all Regions and Clubs attend
important information sessions such as the one offered here.

Click on the link above for
more information.

Registration
to Work with Vulnerable People Act 2013

These courses are important for many different volunteers,
but particularly for new and/or re-accrediting Coaches.

The ‘Working with Children’ qualification attained at the
end of this workshop replaces the old police check, and is a requirement to
gain Coaching accreditation.

That requirement will be mandatory in Tasmania from 1st
April 2015.

Click on the link above for
more information.

This
section is sent on behalf of the Department of Justice – any queries please
call 1300 13 55 13 or email workingwithchildren@justice.tas.gov.au

The
Department of Justice is implementing the Registration to Work with
Vulnerable People Act 2013 (the Act) which requires people who work closely
with children in certain activities to be registered.

The
implementation of the Act is being phased in to different sectors, with the
Child Care Services being first. The cost for registration will be $17.76 for
volunteers and $103.60 for employment.

The
clubs, associations and movements sector, religious services, coaching and
tuition, and commercial services for children can start to apply for
registration on 1 October 2014, with mandatory registration from 1 April 2015.

As
part of the initial process, the Department of Justice is offering a number of
free seminars to help
people to understand the new requirements. For a list of upcoming seminars
please visit http://www.justice.tas.gov.au/working_with_children/seminars_and_events

The
seminars will include information on:

·
how
registration differs to any previous screening process

·
who
will and won’t need registration

·
how
to register

·
what
is assessed

·
how
a clearance may be verified

·
the
timeline for change

·
questions
regarding the process

Please
do not reply email for information relating to the Check – further information regarding the Check and other
requirements are available at http://www.justice.tas.gov.au/working_with_children, by email workingwithchildren@justice.tas.gov.au or alternatively by calling 1300 13 55 13.
