Positions Vacant – Bowls Tasmania Appointed Director

Bowls Tasmania is calling for expressions of interest to fill an Appointed Director position on its Board.

Appointed Directors may be appointed for a term of one year and shall commence from the first Board meeting after the Annual General Meeting in May 2023 until after the conclusion of the next Annual General Meeting.   Appointed Directors shall be eligible for re-appointment for a period of six consecutive full terms.

 Appointed Directors do not need to be individual members but cannot also be a Board Member of a Bowls Tasmania Regional Authority.

The ‘Selection Criteria’ for this Board position is as follows:

1.    Demonstrated experience and understanding of best practice organisational governance and especially:

(i)    The leadership role of a Board, and of its Directors.

(ii)    The capacity to focus on strategic rather than operational issues, and corresponding ability to distinguish between matters for the Board and matters for management.

(iii)    The development of innovative ideas.

(iv)    The cooperation and teamwork of a Board of Directors.

(v)    The understanding of the value of diversity and inclusion to good governance.

(vi)    The work and meeting preparations, and availability and time commitment, of a Board Director.

2.    An appreciation for, and understanding of, the role that community through to high performance sport plays in Tasmania.

3.    A proven successful background in one or more of the following specific areas – commerce, finance, marketing, law or business generally or such other skills which complement the Board composition.   Applicants with skills in technology, public relations, marketing, media and/or social media are particularly encouraged to apply.

4.    Australian Institute of Company Directors’ (AICD) qualifications, or similar, will be highly regarded.

Positions on the Board are honorary.    The Board meets monthly.     Meetings may be scheduled in-person or in the most part virtually via the use of technology.     Additionally, all Board Directors are likely to fill positions on one or more sub-committees of the Board.

Applicants may be of either gender for this position. The successful applicant must have or obtain a current Working with Vulnerable People Card.
