Moama Steamers win Bowls Premier League
Moama Steamers capped off an incredible week of bowls at the Bowls Premier League #17 which was played at the Moama Bowling Club last week, finishing two games clear on top of the ladder. Moama Steamers then lost the second semi-final to Sydney Lions in straight sets 1-10 and 3-3 before defeating the Brisbane Pirates in the preliminary final in an extremely tight tie breaker 4-3, 3-4 and 1-0 and winning the grand final against Sydney Lions in straight sets 5-2 and 6-2.
The last two roster games were played in Friday with the Tasmania Tridents unfortunately losing both. In their first game, Melbourne Extreme won 4-4 and 7-2 and in the final game against the eventual runners-up, Sydney Lions won 4-11, 5-2 and 2-0 in the tie breaker.
Ladder at the end of day five:
- Moama Steamers 42 points
- Sydney Lions 36 points
- Tweed Head Osprey 30 points
- Melbourne Pulse 30 points
- Moreton Bay Pirates 27 points
- Melbourne Extreme 27 points
- Perth Suns 24 points
- Adelaide Pioneer 21 points
- Gold Coast Hawks 21 points
- Tasmania Tridents 12 points
The Tasmania Tridents played some great bowls all week against many of the world’s best bowlers and matched it against most sides, but results did not go their way, in particular winning only one out of eight tie breakers they played in. Winning just four games, it was the Tridents least successful Bowls Premier League performance results-wise and they finished in last place.
