Bowls Tasmania Rolling On.

by Rebecca Van Asch on June 12, 2020

The Tasmanian Bowls Community was well supported in the recent COVID-19 Sport & Recreation Grants Program as part of the $2 million sport and recreation COVID-19 assistance package made available by the Tasmanian Government.

Bowls Tasmania along with 11 Clubs that applied through this program have been recipients of this program with $150,000 being spread across the Bowls Community here in Tasmania.  This grant has assisted those successful Clubs to keep their Greenkeepers employed during this time to ensure the greens are ready to go once the new season rolls around.

Bowls Tasmania’s President Graham Hay and CEO Rebecca Van Asch recently met with the Minister for Sport & Recreation Jane Howlett to pass on our thanks on behalf of the Tasmanian Bowls Community.

Please see the Media Release from Minister Howlett’s Office below.

The Tasmanian Government is continuing to support the State’s sport and recreation sector through the challenges faced due to COVID-19.

Tranche One of our $2 million sport and recreation COVID-19 assistance package has now concluded with 25 organisations successful in their funding bid.

Importantly, this will ensure 187 Tasmanians will remain in their jobs through this crisis, ensuring continuity for the community sports that help to keep Tasmanians fit, healthy and connected.

Bowls Tasmania received $150,000 under tranche one, supporting 12 jobs within the organisation.

“On behalf of Bowls Tasmania and our Clubs I would like to sincerely thank Minister Howlett and the State Government for this fantastic news around our success in this Grant Application,” Bowls Tasmania CEO and Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Rebecca Van Asch said

“This has assisted a lot of our Clubs during this difficult period and will help ensure their survival.”

As Minister for Sport and Recreation, I am looking forward to announcing the details for Tranche Two of our assistance package in coming weeks.

We will also soon be releasing details of our Government’s new $10 million Improving the Playing Field funding program designed to improve sporting facilities across Tasmania and help maintain and build participation rates across all sporting codes.

Applications for this program will be made available soon.
