Senior SWC RD1
Round 1 of the Senior State Wide Challenge competition was held at the New Norfolk Bowls Club today. This marked the beginning of the Bowls Tasmania SWC event for the 2019/20 season. Because round 1 is hosted in the Southern region this saw the South host 2 sides and therefore the opportunity to score 2 lots of points.
The North West Men’s team came back as the defending champions for this shield and were the big achievers of the day securing a 9pt victory in Game 1 against the South 1 side, with 1 rink and a draw securing the overall result by 1 shot. The rink of Greg Douce, Phil Moore, Chris Murray and Lee Pearson managed a 9 shot win to lock away the result. The visitors made it 2 from 2 to secure a 10pt overall win in the afternoon’s match as well.
The Northern women made it a day for defending champions as they secured 22 out of a possible 20 points on offer for the day. The women made their intentions clear from the start of the day, winning on all rinks in Game 1 against South 2 with a margin of 25. The rink of Maxine Monson, Judy Gurr, Madge Strochnetter, Dennis Middap was the best performed rink of the day with 2 wins plus 37. The visitors backed up their performance in Game 2 with a 10pt overall victory over South 1. The Southern rink of Lyn Triffitt, Jan McPhersen, Di Jones and Di Peck won their 2 rinks for the day to stop the North from securing full points.
