2019 Multi-Disability Lawn Bowls National Championships

by Rebecca Van Asch on May 20, 2019

The Tasmanian Bowlers with a Disability team is currently in action at the 2019 Multi-Disability Lawn Bowls National Championships.  The Tasmanian Team known as the “Tassie Tiger-Snakes” are being represented by a 9 player contingent;

  • Jeremy Bracken
  • Kevin Bowkett
  • Brendan Short
  • Alan Syman
  • Marcus Hardy
  • Charles Thomas
  • Colleen Fellows
  • Marijke Raine
  • Shannon Hyland

The ‘Multi Bowl’, as the championships are known, are only open to bowlers with a physical impairment.  The Tasmanian bowlers underwent a classification process prior to the State Championships in January this year to gain their correct classifications in preparation for the Championships.  Bowlers are assessed on how much their impaired impedes their bowling and are categorised as either B5, B6, B7 or B8 depending on severity and then they compete against players of an equal impairment.

The Triples concluded today with Victoria claiming gold.  The  women’s and some of the men’s singles also began today with our Tassie crew having some tight encounters throughout the day.  The women’s singles continues tomorrow while the men kick off the pairs campaign.
