Kingborough was crowned Premier Division State Champions yesterday at Ulverstone in Bowls Tasmania’s Saturday State Pennant finals which saw premiers from the South, North, North West and East Coast playing against each other in the grand finale of lawn bowls for the season.

In the first game of the Premier Division State Championship on Saturday morning at Ulverstone, Port Sorell led early before Longford hit its straps to hit the lead at the half-way mark.   There was nothing in the game after that with Longford finishing just one shot in front of Port Sorell in a high-class encounter  In three very tight games, Longford’s only winner was Josh Appleyard who came from ten shots down after six ends to defeat Bailey Bellchambers by two shots.   Port Sorell’s rink win was courtesy of Codi Marshall who defeated Josh Baker by one shot.   The other rink between Longford’s Mark Strochnetter and Port Sorell’s Josh Marshall was a 16-all draw.

On Saturday afternoon, Kingborough took on Port Sorell and were too good winning on two rinks by twelve shots.   Jarrod Long defeated Josh Marshall by seven shots and Will Coad beat Paul Marshall by six shots.   Port Sorell won on the other rink with Codi Marshall winning a close encounter against Jason Fowler by one shot.

On Sunday morning, the undefeated teams of Kingborough and Longford played each other with the winner taking out the Premier Division State Championship.   Kingborough settled quickly and raced out to an eighteen-shot lead after just fifteen ends and still led by fourteen shots after thirty-two ends.   Not surprisingly, Longford fought back and narrowed the margin to just ten shots after fifty ends and all the momentum was suddenly with Longford.   However, Kingborough steadied and held on to win its third Premier Division State Premiership by twenty shots.   Jason Fowler led the way defeating Mark Strochnetter by ten shots and Jarrod Long beat Josh Baker by twelve shots after scores were level after fifteen ends.   Josh Appleyard was Longford’s only winner, coming from nine shots down after fifteen ends to defeat Will Coad by two shots.
