Southern teams take out State Senior Fours Championships
Southern teams ruled the greens in the State Senior Men’s and Women’s Fours Championships which were contested at the Rosny Park Bowls Club today.
Howrah’s Denise Tanner and Charon Foster teamed up with Kingborough’s Lorraine Walker and Sue Mann and were crowned State Senior Women’s Fours Champions when they defeated Sandy Bay’s Peri Buckley, Yvonne Buckley, Maxine Munro and Tracey Cameron 22-13 in a high-class grand final. Buckley raced to a five-shot lead after two ends before Tanner strung together seven winning ends in a row to hold a nine-shot lead at the half-way mark. Buckley fought back to get within one shot after thirteen ends but Tanner won every end after that to win by nine shots.
In two very tight women’s semi-finals, Tanner defeated Jill Silvey, Janet McCarthy, Gail Thow and Terese Brett 11-10 and Buckley beat Maxine Monson, Judy Gurr, Jeanette Lane and Denise Middap 14-13.
