Tasmania defeats New South Wales in Peet Kay Bowls Series

The annual Peet Kay bowls series between Tasmania and NSW has concluded with an epic final on day three of the Three Test series.    The Peet Kay Group was founded in 1961 to provide regular competition between New South Wales and Tasmania providing for interstate contests for players who were not selected in official interstate matches.   The event is held twice annually, one in New South Wales in late August and one in Tasmania in early February each year.

Going into the final day of the series with one Test all, Tasmania was anxious to turn the table on the NSW side and bring the converted Peet Kay trophy back to Tasmania for the first time in many years.

The Tasmanian side had a very handy lead in the middle of the game only to see NSW peg the Tasmanians back. Tasmania rallied and kept the score board ticking over to maintain a narrow lead against some strong opposition from NSW.

In what only can be described as a grand finale the series was decided in the last bowl of the day. Tasmania went into the last end holding a two-shot margin on the scoreboard. NSW were up to the challenge and played magnificent bowls to hold two shots and a possible third leaving a decision the Tasmanians would rather not have had to make, however having the last bowl of the day was a plus for the Tasmanians and they were up to the challenge and scored two shot with the last bowl to win the series two “Tests” to one.

In a joint statement today Tasmanian Team Leader Ian Edwards and NSW Team Leader Gordon Petterson said “the series was once again played on a friendly and competitive basis and the bowlers enjoyed meeting old and new acquaintances. They went onto say how much they appreciated the Kings Meadows, Exeter, North Launceston and Westbury Bowling Clubs for hosting the series and for providing excellent bowling greens, amenities and food and the many volunteers who assisted with catering, green preparation and the scoreboard attendants who kept the main scoreboards current.

The next Peet Kay series shall be held on the NSW Central Coast in late August 2026.
