Tasmanian Junior Lawn Bowls Championships get underway at Longford

The best junior (under 18) bowlers in Tasmania were on show as Bowls Tasmania’s State Junior Championships commenced today in bright and sunny conditions at the Longford Bowls and Community Club and will conclude on Wednesday.

The State Junior Boys Pairs Championship was played as sectional play with all teams playing each other, with the result not decided until the final bowl of the competition.   In the end, it was Longford’s Fletcher Felmingham and North Launceston’s Ollie Wetzel who held their nerve to win their final sectional game by four shots to go through the competition unbeaten and were crowned State Champions.   In a very tight competition, Cremorne’s Mitchell Banks and Turners Beach’s Archie Burton won two of their three games to finish in second position.   Finishing in third position was Ulverstone’s Cooper Fidler and Burnie’s Blade Pile who won one of their three games.

Sectional play in the State Junior Girls Pairs Championships commenced today with the first three rounds played, with the final two rounds being played tomorrow.   Glenorchy Rodman’s Miley Sutton and Burnie’s Imogen Patmore and Kings Meadows Nakia Daines and Brighton’s Olivia Ims are both unbeaten after three rounds and look like the teams to beat.   Their clash in the final round of the competition tomorrow afternoon should determine the winners.  Currently in third position is Port Sorell’s Payton Jones and St Helen’s Lola Peters who won one of their three games today.

The championships continue at Longford tomorrow with the conclusion of the Girls Junior Pairs Championships and sectional play in the Boys and Girls Singles Championships.
