Port Sorell’s Codi Marshall and Amity Bickley were crowned Bowls Tasmania’s 2026 Sue Geeves Open Mixed Pairs Champions today in a high standard and close grand final at the North Launceston Bowls Club in a game that was not decided until the last bowl.

Marshall and Bickley threatened to run away with the grand final several times against Ulverstone’s Taelyn Male and Chloe Flanagan but a number of brilliant upshots from Taelyn Male kept his team in the match and with two ends to go, Male and Flanagan had hit the front.   Marshall and Bickley refused to lay down and won the last two ends to win by two shots in one of the best grand finals seen at the State Championships in many years.

In the semi-finals in the morning, Marshall and Bickley looked down and out but scored six shots on the final end to defeat Ridgley’s Nigel Melbourne and Burnie’s Jody Murphy by one shot.    Male and Flanagan were made to work hard for their ten-shot win over Orford’s Elaine Taylor and Ricky Limbrick in the other semi-final.

.  Sectional play for the Bowling Arm Singles Championships was also held at North Launceston today with section winners being Brad Haley, Peter Thow, Rodney O’Halloran, Geoff Buchanan, Les Reynolds, John Borg, John Burley, Craig Brewer and Paul Bugg.

Gala Week continues on Tuesday with sectional play in the prestigious Men’s Triples Championship being played at Invermay and the Women’s Triples Championship at North Launceston.   Post-sectional play in the Bowling Arm Singles Championship will also be played at North Launceston.

The championships conclude at North Launceston on Wednesday.
