Tasmanian lawn bowls championships in Launceston
The best bowlers in Tasmania will be on show at Bowls Tasmania’s Gala Week of State Championships which will be held in Launceston from Saturday until next Wednesday.
The Championships kick off on Saturday with the prestigious Sue Geeves Mixed Pairs Championships – with sectional play on Saturday, culminating in finals on Monday.
A red-hot field of one hundred and twelve players have entered the Mixed Pairs Championships with the winners representing Tasmania at the Australian Mixed Pairs Championships in WA in October 2026. With current champions Michael Sims and Alison Venn not competing this year, main contenders for the title appear to be 2024 champions Codi Marshall and Amity Bickley, and current State players Baily Bellchambers and Amity Bickley, Rob and Jess McMullen and Taelyn Male and Chloe Flanagan.
Tim Douce and Tracey Little will be keen to show the form that won them the Bowls Tasmania Bowlers of the Year awards in 2025. Current members of the Tasmania Tridents, dual Commonwealth Games gold medallist and world champion Rebecca Van Asch, former Australian Singles champion Rob McMullen, current Bowls Australia emerging Jackaroos Dylan Fisher and Amity Bickley are amongst a very strong field of bowlers competing in Gala Week.
“Bowls Tasmania has worked hard to develop its Gala Week of bowls, and we are confident with the terrific support of Bowls North and players from all over Tasmania that we will see continued success in this event” said Bowls Tasmania CEO Rob McGuire.
A second Gala Week is scheduled for March to complete the championships.
The Gala Week of Bowls includes the hosting of the Tasmanian Open Men’s and Women’s Triples and Mixed Pairs and Bowling Arm Singles and Pairs Championships in an action-packed five days of bowls.
North Launceston Bowls Club will be the hosts for this event, while Longford, Kings Meadows and Invermay will be the support clubs.
