Peet Kay tour to NSW

by robmcguire on September 22, 2025

The Tasmanian Peet Kay lawn bowls touring group travelled to New South Wales in the last week of August 2025 to contest the Peet Kay Lawn Bowls Cup.   The “Cup” first contested in 1962 is an annual event between NSW and Tasmania.   The event starts with a “friendly” match between the two states and then the serious bowls commence with a three “test” match format over three days with 28 bowlers (seven rinks of 4s) from each state for the converted Peet Kay Cup.

The thirty-four Tasmanian touring party were based in Penrith with the “friendly” and the three “test” matches played at the Penrith, Merrylands, Wentworthville and Blacktown bowling clubs respectively.

Played in magnificent conditions NSW proved too strong for the Tasmanian contingent winning all three “tests”, however Tasmanian tour leader Ian Edwards said the “tour was once again a great success for bowls.   He thanked and congratulated all participants and supporters for their commitment and competitive spirit”.

The touring party would like to extend their appreciation for the work Peet Kay Secretary Victoria Breadon did in organising the travel arrangements including the accommodation and day trips which were excellent.

Tasmania will host NSW in January 2026 for the next challenge which will be played in the north region of the state with the NSW contingent based in Launceston.
