Ulverstone’s Rob McMullen and Port Sorell’s Rae Simpson were crowned Bowls Tasmania’s 2025 Champion of Champion Singles Championship winners at the Claremont Bowls & Community Club on Sunday.

In the Men’s Championship, Kingborough’s Jason Fowler defeated Longford’s Mark Strochnetter in a very tight first game of the day 21-18.   McMullen then played Strochnetter.  After a very even first half, McMullen got on top to beat Strochnetter 21-11.  The final game was the best game of the day with the lead changing throughout the game.   McMullen gradually got on top of Fowler, before Fowler closed the gap.   With a great drive with his final bowl, McMullen defeated Fowler 21-18 to take out the championship.

In the Women’s Championship, East Launceston’s Courtney Hobbs started the day well to defeat Brighton’s Tayla Munro 21-13.   Munro bounced back and was in front of Simpson all game.   Playing some big upshots, Munro went on to win 21-16.   Hobbs had to score 15 shots in the final game against Simpson to win the championship.   However, Simpson never let Hobbs into the game and raced out to a 13-3 lead after eight ends and held on to win 21-9.   With one win each, Simpson won the championship with a positive shot difference of +7 from Munro on -3 and Hobbs on-4.

McMullen and Simpson have won the right to represent Tasmania and their respective clubs at the Australian Champion of Champions Singles Championship which is being held at the Devonport Country Club in Tasmania from 11 -13 November 2025.
