Top bowlers shine in Bowls Tasmania’s Singles Championships

Play commenced in the prestigious Bowls Tasmania Men’s and Women’s Open Singles Championships which got underway at Club Beltana, Kingborough and Rosny Park today.   Despite the changing weather conditions, some great bowls were played, and competition was fierce to earn the right to play in finals which commence tomorrow.

In the Men’s Open Singles Championship, sectional play winners were Brad Carver, Codi Marshall, Peter Bannister, Glenn Frame, Mark Atkinson, Rob McMullen, Phil Ions, Grant Wakefield, Michael Rankin, Lachie Strochnetter, David Minns, Gavin Cleary, Josh Lording, Stewart Cashion, Lucas Howell, Peter Jenkins, Leigh Munnings and Bailey Bellchambers.

In the Women’s Open Singles Championship, sectional play winners were Tracey Little, Amity Bickley, Ali Venn, Courtney Hobbs, Charlie Harkness, Crystal Brooks, Cheryl Fielding, Beverley Greening, Ash Wooley and Joy Voss.

In the Women’s Para Singles Championships, which was played as a sectional play round-robin, Cressy’s Debbie Maher remained undefeated and was crowned the State Champion from Huonville’s Rake Raine.

The Men’s Para Singles Championships is also being played as a sectional play round robin.   Section winners were Dover RSL’s Kindilan Hayes and Wynyard’s Chris Newman who both remained undefeated and will meet in the grand final which will be played tomorrow.

The Bowling Arm Fours Championships was played as a sectional play round-robin and concluded today.   In an extremely tight contest that was not decided until the final bowl was played, Trevallyn’s Geoff Buchanan and Joe Reissig, Launceston’s John Borg and Ridgley’s Vaughan Eaves remained undefeated to win the championship from Wynyard’s Paul Bugg, Penguin’s Peter Thow, Smithton’s Rod O’Halloran and Railton’s Noel Purton.

The championships continue tomorrow at Rosny Park with post-sectional play and quarter and semi-finals in the Men’s and Women’s Open Singles Championships and sectional play in the Bowling Arm Triples Championships.   Grand finals will also be played in the Para Open Pairs and Para Men’s Singles Championships  

The championships conclude on Friday at Rosny Park with grand finals in the Open Men’s and Women’s Pairs and Singles Championships, together with the conclusion of the Bowling Arm Triples Championships.
