State Pairs Championships continue at Kingborough

Sectional play winners in the Men’s and Women’s Open Pairs Championships took to the greens at Kingborough today in overcast conditions in the knockout phase of the competition, with outstanding bowls being the order of the day.

In the Men’s Open Pairs quarterfinals, , Tim Douce and Josh Mabb easily accounted for  Phil Ions and Michael Andersch by 23 shots, David Minns and Lucas Howell defeated Gary McCarthy and Leigh Griffiths by three shots, Nathan Dinning and Peter Bannister were too good for Grant Wakefield and Matthew Breward winning by 16 shots and Shane Garth and Darryn Reeve beat Chris Martyn and Ricky Limbrick by ten shots

In two very tight semi- finals, Minns and Howell narrowly beat Douce and Mabb by three shots and Garth and Reeve defeated Dinning and Bannister by two shots.

In the Women’s Open Pairs quarterfinals, Ali Venn and Bronny King defeated Joy Voss and Jeanette Lane by eight shots, Rae Simpson and Tracey Little were too good for Crystal Brooks and Michelle Moate winning by 15 shots, Mikayla Baker and Charlie Harkness finished nine shots in front of Maddie Johnston and Kerrie Lane and Amity Bickley and Ashlee Woolley defeated Peri Buckley and Jean Claridge by seven shots.

In the semi-finals,  Baker and Harkness were outstanding in defeating Bickley and Woolley by 17 shots in a game that finished two ends early and Venn and Bronny King won a heart stopping contest against Simpson and Little by one shot.

Sectional play in the Para Pairs Championship commenced today with section winners being Glenorchy City’s Jacob Sheerin-Wall and Wynyard’s Chris Newman and Kings Meadows Colleen Fellowes and Cressy’s Debbie Maher.   Both sectional winners will play off in the grand final at Rosny Park on Thursday.

The championships continue tomorrow with sectional play commencing in the Men’s and Women’s Open and Para Singles Championships at Club Beltana, Kingborough and Rosny Park.     Sectional play in the Bowling Arm Fours Championships will be played at Kingborough.
