Tasmanian State Lawn Bowls Championships underway
The best bowlers in Tasmania are on show in Bowls Tasmania’s State Championships which commenced in Hobart today and will continue until Friday. The Rosny Park Bowls Club is hosting the event, supported by the Beltana, Kingborough and New Norfolk Bowls Clubs.
State championship honours are up for grabs in Open men’s and women’s singles, pairs and fours. The championships also include para bowls singles and pairs and bowling arm triples and four’s events.
The championships kicked off today in very warm conditions with sectional play in the men’s and women’s open fours championships at Rosny Park and Club Beltana.
Sectional winning skips in the open men’s championships were Jarrod Long, Codi Marshall and Taelyn Male all of whom remained undefeated in their sections. Rick Ormerod and Chris Martyn were also undefeated although both drew one of their sectional games. Tim Douce lost his first sectional game but won his next two games to win his section on a countback from Solomon Cooper.
In what is believed to be a first for the Tasmanian Men’s Fours Championships, a team of Para bowlers consisting of Jacob Sheerin-Wall, Chris Newman, Kindilan Hayes and Jason Dent performed exceptionally well winning their first two games but were beaten in their final game by the Chris Martyn team and were eliminated from the championships.
In the open women’s championships, teams led by Rebecca Van Asch, Kim Saunders, Rae Simpson and Noelene Purton all remained undefeated in their sections and have advanced to the semi-finals.
