Bright start to Tasmanian Lawn Bowls Seniors Championships
The best senior (over 60’s) bowlers in Tasmania were on show at Bowls Tasmania’s Seniors Championships which commenced on a sunny day in Launceston today with sectional play in the Men’s and Women’s Fours Championships.at Trevallyn. The Senior Championships will continue until Wednesday.
Tight sections were the order of the day in sectional play in the Men’s Fours Championships. The only sectional winner to win all three games was the north west combination of Ricki Richardson, Grant Youd, Peter O’Donnell and Geoff Wisemen. Another north west combination of Greg Douce, Joe Simpson, Gerard McCarthy and Pat Saltmarsh had two wins and a draw to win their way through to the semi-finals. The other two sections were decided on shots up with winners being a southern combination of Chris Martyn Mick Daniels, Clive Kelton and Ricky Limbrick who won their section by seventeen shots and a northern combination of David Minns, Chris Lee, David Heron and Ray Boucher who won their section by sixteen shots.
Richardson and Martyn will play off in the first semi-final with Douce and Minns playing off in the other semi-final at North Launceston on Tuesday afternoon at 12.30pm. The winners will meet in the grand final scheduled to commence at 3pm.
Sectional play In the Women’s Fours Championships was also played at Trevallyn today. Winners were two northern combinations of Kim Saunders, Deb Lee, Maggie Campbell, and Jean Claridge and Maureen Zoon, Vicki Winley, Janet McCarthy and Trudy Rundle who were undefeated in their sections. In the closest section, a southern combination of Peri Buckley, Denise Tanner, Bernadette Carroll and Anne Allanby won their section by twenty-seven shots.
Zoon and Buckley will play off in the first semi-final at North Launceston on Tuesday afternoon at 12.30pm. The winner will meet Saunders in the grand final scheduled to commence at 3pm.

The Seniors Championships continue on Monday at the North Launceston, Cosgrove Park and Trevallyn Bowls Clubs with sectional play in the Men’s and Women’s Senior Pairs Championships.
