Buchanan and Reissig make it four wins in five years in State Bowling Arm Championships
The first grand final of Bowls Tasmania’s Gala Week of State Championships was decided at the Burnie Bowls Club today.
Trevallyn’s Geoff Buchanan and Joe Reissig were red-hot favourites in the Bowling Arm Pairs having won three of the past four Bowling Arm State Pairs Championships and managed to keep in front for most of the game against John Borg and David Sims to win by eight shots. In the semi-final, Buchanan and Reissig comfortably defeated Laird Best and David Allison by ten shots.
The Sue Geeves Mixed Pairs Championship was reduced to just four pairs after the round of sixteen and quarterfinals were also played at Burnie. In the round-of-sixteen, Tim Douce and Denise Fitzpatrick defeated Courtney Hobbs and Paul Costello by three shots, Stewart Cashion and Peri Buckley beat Greg Douse and Rose-Ann Howard by three shots, Peter and Maureen Zoon defeated Barry Magnus and Tracey Little by six shots, Bailey Bellchambers and Lauren Banks were too good for Darren and Glenda Fielding winning by nine shots, Michael Sims and Ali Venn easily accounted for Dee Harmen and Heath Middap finishing nineteen shots in front, Taelyn Male and Chloe Flanagan defeated Darren and Carolyn Monks by eight shots and Rob and Jess McMullen beat Mark Strochnetter and Kim Saunders by nine shots with Jade Groenewege and Karen Pickering having a bye.
In the quarter finals, Tim Douce and Denise Fitzpatrick had to work hard to defeat Stewart Cashion and Peri Buckley by two shots, young-guns Bailey Bellchambers and Lauren Banks beat Peter and Maureen Zoon by five shots, Michael Sims and Ali Venn continued their good form to account for Taelyn Male and Chloe Flanagan by four shots and in the closest game of the quarterfinals, Rob and Jess McMullen scraped home by two shots against Jade Groenewege and Karen Pickering.

Gala Week continues on Monday with semi-finals and the grand final in the Sue Geeves Mixed Pairs and sectional play in the Bowling Arm Singles which are at being played at Burnie.
