Tasmanian lawn bowls championships on North West Coast
The best bowlers in Tasmania will be on show at Bowls Tasmania’s Gala Week of State Championships which will be held on the North West Coast from Saturday until next Wednesday.
The Championships kick off on Saturday with the prestigious Sue Geeves Mixed Pairs Championships – with sectional play on Saturday, culminating in finals on Monday.
The current State Mixed Pairs Champions, Codi Marshall and current Bowls Australia Under 18 Female Bowler of the Year Amity Bickley, will be keen to make it back-to-back championships, but they won’t have everything their own way with a red-hot field of one hundred and twenty players lining up for the Mixed Pair Championships. Bailey Bellchambers and Rae Simpson will be keen to show the form that won them the Bowls Tasmania Bowlers of the Year awards in 2024. Current members of the Tasmania Tridents, dual Commonwealth Games gold medallist and world champion Rebecca Van Asch, former Australian Singles champion Rob McMullen and Taelyn Male are also amongst a strong field of bowlers competing in Gala Week.
“Bowls Tasmania has worked really hard in recent years to develop its Gala Week of bowls, and we are confident with the terrific support of Bowls North West and players from all over Tasmania that we will see continued success in this event” said Bowls Tasmania CEO Rob McGuire. A second Gala Week is scheduled for March to complete the championships.
The Gala Week of Bowls includes the hosting of the Tasmanian Open Men’s and Women’s Triples and Mixed Pairs and Bowling Arm Singles and Pairs Championships in an action-packed five days of bowls.
Burnie Bowls Club will be the hosts for this event, while Devonport Country Club will be the support club.
