State Pairs Championships continue at North Launceston
Sectional play winners in the Men’s and Women’s Open Pairs Championships took to the greens at North Launceston today in bright sunshine in the knockout phase of the competition.
In the Men’s Open Pairs quarterfinals, David Minns and Drew Berwick defeated Darren Monks and Chris Norris by 12 shots, Rick Ormerod and Cam Norris beat Mark Nitz and Bailey Bellchambers by 11 shots, Josh Walker-Davis and Ollie Morrison finished 17 shots in front of Mike Gaffney and Reiley Banks and Riley Davie beat Tony Simpson and Jonty Hayes by 10 shots. In two very tight semi- finals, Ormerod and Norris narrowly beat Minns and Berwick by 1 shot and Reiley Banks and Riley Davie defeated Walker-Davis and Morrison by 6 shots.
In the Women’s Open Pairs quarterfinals, Lyn Triffitt and Trudy Davis defeated Barb Liddington and Linda Rose by 15 shots, Tracey Little and Glenda Fielding, beat Ali Venn and Karen Redman by 3 shots, Rae Simpson and Jean Claridge finished 8 shots in front of Crystal Brooks and Joy Voss with Denise Tanner and Lyn Page having a bye. In the semi-finals, Little and Fielding defeated Triffitt and Davis in a sudden death end after scores were level after 15 ends and Simpson and Claridge beat Tanner and Page by 10 shots.
The Men’s B Grade Championship concluded today with North Launceston’s Nick Wells and Brad Halton being declared State Champions. Played as sectional play, Wells and Halton remained undefeated during the championship. Runners-up were Sheffield’s Daniel Elliott and Murray Mace whose only loss in the championship was to the winners.
The Para Pairs Championship was also held today with Glenorchy City’s Jason Dent and Kings Meadows’ Adrian Tew convincingly winning the championship from Kings Meadows Colleen Fellowes and Devonport Country Club’s Debbie Pilgrim.
Sectional play in the Bowling Arm Fours Championships also commenced today with the first three rounds being played. At the end of the day teams skipped by Peter Thow and Geoff Buchannan remain undefeated and meet in the first round tomorrow in a game that may decide the championship.
The championships continue tomorrow with sectional play commencing in the Men’s and Women’s Open and B Grade and Para Singles Championships at North Launceston, Invermay and Trevallyn. Sectional play also continues in the Bowling Arm Fours Championships at North Launceston.
