The best bowlers in Tasmania are on show in Bowls Tasmania’s State Championships which commenced in Launceston today and will continue until Friday.   The North Launceston Bowls & Community Club is hosting the event, supported by the Trevallyn, Invermay, Longford and Cosgrove Park Bowls Clubs.

State championship honours are up for grabs in Open and B Grade men’s and women’s singles, pairs and fours.   The championships also include para bowls singles and pairs and bowling arm triples and fours events.

The championships kicked off today in very warm and humid conditions with sectional play in the men’s and women’s open fours championships at North Launceston and Trevallyn.

Sectional winning skips in the open men’s championships  were Daniel Baker, Brad Carver, Bowls Australia’s number one ranked male bowler Josh Walker-Davis, Bailey Bellchambers, Grant Wakefield and Mark Strochnetter, all of whom remained undefeated in their sections.

In the open women’s championships, teams led by Rebecca Van Asch and Heather Thonpson both remain undefeated, and they will be joined by teams led by Dee Harman and Erin Moore who both narrowly won their sections on countbacks after winning two of their three sectional games.

All the action on Sunday is at North Launceston where finals for the open men’s and women’s four’s championships will be played with play to start at 9.30am and grand finals at 3.30pm.
