Great day for the Tasmania Tridents at BPL

by Rob McGuire on February 21, 2024

The Tasmania Tridents came out firing today at the Bowls Premier League which is being played at the Moama Bowling Club this week.   The Tridents played great bowls all day, winning three of their five games today to storm into the top five.   In one of the tightest BPL events ever staged, there is just two wins between the second and bottom teams in the competition as the event moves past the half-way mark.

In the first game for the day, the Tridents took it right up to the top team and early championship favourites , the Brisbane Pirates, winning four of the five ends in the first set to win it 8-4 before losing the second set 1-7 and then the tiebreaker 0-1.   Three wins from the first eight games and it looked like finals might be slipping away from the Tridents.

However, the Tridents bounced back in the second game of the day, with a come from behind win against Adelaide Pioneer, losing the first set 4-9 but winning the second set 5-1 and the tie breaker 2-0.

The Tridents were on a roll and accounted for the Moama Steamers in straight sets 8-4 and 8-3 in the third game.

The Moama Steamers defeated the Tridents in the fourth game of the day in another game that was decided in a tie breaker.   The Tridents won the first set 5-2 but lost the second set 1-8 and the tie breaker 0-1.

In their final game on day three, which was shown live on Fox Sports and Kayo, the Tridents had the better of Melbourne Extreme easily winning the first set  9-1 before dropping the second set 5-8 but winning the tie breaker 1-0 to finish the day on a real high..
