Tough day for Tasmania Tridents

by Rob McGuire on February 20, 2024

Things haven’t gone as well as hoped for the Tasmania Tridents today at Bowls Premier League #19 which is being played at the Moama Bowling Club this week with the Tridents winning just one of their four games but will take confidence from winning their final game of day two to finish the day in seventh position.

In their first game today, the Tridents played well but couldn’t get over the line against the Moama Steamers losing the first game 1-8 and fighting back in the second game eventually drawing the game 8 all, winning all but one end in the second game but dropping 8 shots on that end.

The Tridents lost the first set of their second game today against the Perth Suns 2-5 but dominated the second game winning 10-2 forcing the game into a tie breaker.    Perth Suns prevailed in the tie breaker winning 1-0.

The Tridents third game of the day against the Sydney Lions was live streamed on the Bowls Australia Facebook page.   The Tridents lost both sets 4 – 8 and 5 – 7 although the scores do not reflect how tight both games were.

In their final game on day two, which was shown live on Fox Sports and Kayo, the Tridents played some awesome bowls to win their first game of the day defeating  Melbourne Pulse in a tie breaker   2-3, 8-3 and 1-0.

Ladder at the end of day two:

  1. Moreton Bay Pirates 15 points
  2. Sydney Lions   15 points
  3. Melbourne Pulse   12 points
  4. Melbourne Extreme   12 points
  5. Moama Steamers 12 points
  6. Gold Coast Hawks   9 points
  7. Tasmania Tridents   9 points
  8. Tweed Head Ospreys  9 points
  9. Adelaide Pioneers   6 points
  10. Perth Suns   6 points

The event continues on Wednesday with five games being played by the Tasmania Tridents including round twelve against Melbourne Extreme which will be televised live on Fox Sport and Kayo at 6.30pm.
