Lawn Bowls Senior Championships on North West Coast

The best senior (over 60’s) bowlers in Tasmania will be on show at Bowls Tasmania’s Seniors Championships which will be held on the North West Coast from Sunday until next Wednesday.

Many of the current and past stars of the sport in Tasmania will be showing their stuff in men’s and women’s fours and pairs championships which get underway on Sunday morning with sectional play in the men’s and women’s fours championship at Burnie

Boasting three State Over 60 players in the team, the northern combination of David Minns, Chris Lee, David Heron and Ray Boucher will start favourites in the Men’s Senior Fours Championships.

Carol Bannister, Robyn Leggett, Jacqueline Phillips and Jan Hobbs won the State Senior Women’s Fours Championships in Hobart last year and should be right up there again this year, but will have to fight hard against a very strong northern combination of Rae Simpson, Kim Saunders, Debbie Lee and Jean Claridge who are all current State Open or Senior State players.

“Bowls Tasmania has worked really hard in recent years to develop its Seniors Championships.  The standard of bowls has improved as well.   The number of entries is very solid, and we are confident with the terrific support of Bowls North West that we will see continued success in this event” said Bowls Tasmania CEO Rob McGuire.

Burnie Bowls Club will be the host club for this event, while South Burnie and Penguin will both act as support clubs for sectional play in the pairs on Monday.

Finals will be held at Burnie on Tuesday and Wednesday.
