Stars shine in State Triples Championships
With the Mixed Open Pairs State Championships finalised yesterday, the Bowls Tasmania Gala Week continued today at Club Beltana, Rosny Park and New Norfolk with the commencement of the Men’s and Women’s Open Triples Championships with most of the big names in the sport in Tasmania getting through their sections.
Sectional play in the Men’s Open Triples was played at Beltana and Rosny Park today with sectional winners being Darren Monks, Jonty Hayes, David Minns, Mark Nitz, Taelyn Male, Rick Ormerod and in the closest section Gavin Cleary who defeated Grant Wakefield on ends won after they couldn’t be separated on points, shot difference and shot percentages.
Sectional play in the Women’s Open Triples was played at New Norfolk with sectional winners being Denise Tanner, Peri Buckley, Rebecca Van Asch, Rae Simpson, Lauren Banks and Makayla Gibson.
The B Grade Men’s Triples Championship was an extremely tight affair with New Norfolk’s Paul Smith, Danny Lockley and Tim Morgan taking out the State title by one shot over Shane Withers, Robert Lockley and Ashley Connors.
In the Bowling Arm Singles Championship, Geoff Buchanan defeated Gaylene Elsworthy 21-6 and John Burley defeated Michael Shingles 21-9 in the semi-finals.
Gala Week concludes on Wednesday at Club Beltana with finals in the prestigious Men’s and Women’s Triples Championships and the grand final in the Bowling Arm Singles Championship.
