Great bowls from the Tasmania Tridents

by Rob McGuire on February 22, 2023

The Tasmania Tridents came out firing today at the Bowls Premier League #17 which is being played at the Moama Bowling Club this week.   The Tridents played great bowls all day without reward, winning just one of their five games today but being extremely close in all their other games to find themselves languishing at the bottom of the ladder as the competition moves past the half-way mark.

In a wildly fluctuating first game against the Perth Suns, the Tridents were outclassed in the first set losing 2-16 but bounced back strongly to win the second set 16-3 before losing the tiebreaker 0-1.   Its poor record in tiebreakers is costing the Tridents dearly.

In a close encounter that could have gone either way, the Sydney Suns defeated the Tridents in the second game today in two tight sets 8-5 and 4-3.

The third game today was another nailbiter that again went against the Tridents, with home side Moama Steamers narrowly winning in straight sets 8-5 with the second set drawn at 5 shots each.

The Tridents bounced back in the fourth game today accounting for Melbourne Pulse in straight sets 5-4 and 10-5.

In their final game on day three, which was shown live on Fox Sports and Kayo, the Tridents had the better of Tweed Head Ospreys everywhere but on the scoreboard losing in straight sets 5-5 and 1-5.

Ladder at the end of day three:

  1. Sydney Lions 27 points
  2. Tweed Head Osprey 27 points
  3. Moama Steamers 27 points
  4. Moreton Bay Pirates 18 points
  5. Melbourne Pulse 18 points
  6. Gold Coast Hawks 15 points
  7. Adelaide Pioneers 15 points
  8. Perth Suns 15 points
  9. Melbourne Extreme  12 points
  10. Tasmania Tridents 6 points

The event continues on Thursday with four games being played by the Tasmania Tridents including round sixteen  against Perth Suns which will be televised live on Fox Sport and Kayo at 9.00pm.
