Tasmanian Lawn Bowls Championships in Launceston
The best bowlers in Tasmania will be on show at Bowls Tasmania’s Gala Week which will be held in Launceston from Saturday until next Wednesday.
The current Australian Men’s Open Singles Champion, Rob McMullen and the current Australian Under 18 Boy’s Fours Champions in Ollie Morrison, Jonty Hayes, Lachie Thurley and Codi Marshall will all be playing. Josh Walker-Davis and Rae Simpson will be keen to show the form that won them the Bowls Tasmania Bowlers of the Year awards in 2022. Dual Commonwealth Games gold medallist and world champion Rebecca Van Asch, current Australian Men’s Champion of Champion Singles Championship runner-up, Mark Nitz, and the newest member of the Tasmania Tridents, Michael Sims, are also amongst a strong field of bowlers competing.
In recent years Bowls Tasmania, has grown the Tasmanian Open Championships in size and entries back to the “good old days” of the sport with the introduction of the Gala Week of Bowls with a second Gala Week scheduled for March to complete the Championships.
“Bowls Tasmania has worked really hard in recent years to develop its Gala Week of Bowls and we are confident with the terrific support of Bowls North and players from all over Tasmania that we will see continued success in this event” said Bowls Tasmania CEO Rob McGuire.
The Gala Week of Bowls includes the hosting of the Tasmanian Open Men’s and Women’s Triples and Mixed Pairs, Bowling Arm Singles and Pairs and Junior Boys and Girls Singles and Pairs Championships in an action-packed week of bowls.
The second round of the Juniors State Wide Challenge involving junior representative teams from the North West Coats, Launceston and Hobart will be played at Longford on Sunday.
Trevallyn Bowls Club will be the hosts for this event, while Longford, Kings Meadows and North Launceston Bowls Clubs will all act as support clubs.
Bowls Tasmania will be live streaming grand finals on its Facebook page from Sunday through to Wednesday.
