Top day for Tasmania Tridents at lawn bowls national league
Tasmania Tridents bounced back on Day 4 of the Bowls Premier League winning three of the four games they played and have given themselves a great chance to play in finals tonight in only their second outing in BPL.
The Tridents have won the first game of the day every day at BPL#15 to date and today was no different against the Gold Coast Hawks. The Tridents won the first set 6-3 but the Hawks bounced back to easily win the second set 12-2. The Tridents prevailed in the tiebreaker 1-0 to keep its finals hopes alive.
The Trident’s second game of the day against the Perth Suns started disastrously when the Suns raced away to a convincing 13-0 win in the first set. Showing just how much they have improved since BPL#14, the Tridents fought back to win the second set 9-4 and won a vital measure to take the tiebreaker 1-0 and climb back into the top five.
In one of their best performances of the tournament in the third game for the day, the Trident’s easily accounted for one of the premiership favourites the Brisbane Pirates in straight sets 8-1 and 12-0.
The final game for Day 4 was the television game against Tweed Heads Ospreys. The first set was tied at 5 all after four ends. Ospreys drove the jack into the ditch with their first bowl of the fifth end but the bowl didn’t stay with the jack. Mark Nitz then produced three magnificent draw bowls to within inches of the ditch and the Tridents held on to score one shot and win the first set 6-5. Ospreys picked up the second set, picking up 8 shots in a power play on the final end to win 11-5 and then prevailed in the tiebreaker 1-0.
