Van Asch, Lee and McMullen win Australian Women’s Triples Championships

by Rob McGuire

Congratulations to Invermay’s Rebecca Van Asch, Debbie Lee and Jess McMullen who won the 2021 Australian Triples Championships at the Broadbeach Bowls Club in Queensland tonight.

After winning their section undefeated earlier in the day, the Tasmanian trio defeated Western Australia’s Lisa Featherby, Laura Mertz and Linda Warburton 17-12 in a high-class grand final.

In the Men’s Triples Championships, Tasmania’s Mark Nitz, Rob McMullen and Will Coad won their section undefeated, but were defeated in the grand final 12-19 by Queensland’s Aaron Sherriff, Barrie Lester and Nick Cahill.

The Australian Championships continue tomorrow with the pairs and mixed pairs, the fours on Thursday and the singles on Friday.

The 2021 Australian Championships were postponed from October 2021 and again in November 2021 until April 2022 due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, border closures, lockdowns and uncertainties affecting many states across the nation.
