The best bowlers in Tasmania are on show in  Bowls Tasmania’s State Championships which commenced in Hobart today and will continue until Friday.   The Rosny Park Bowls Club will be the host club for this event, while Beltana and Kingborough Bowls Clubs will all act as support clubs.

State championship honours are up for grabs in Open and B Grade men’s and women’s singles, pairs and fours.   The championships will also include disability singles and pairs.   In addition, for the first time, the championships will include bowling arm triples and Fours events.

“Bowls Tasmania has worked really hard to showcase the sport.   Despite the presence of COVID-19, the number of entries continues to grow, and we are confident with the terrific support of lawn bowlers from all parts of the state that we will see continued success in this event” said Bowls Tasmania CEO Rob McGuire.

The championships kicked off today with sectional play in the men’s and women’s Open and B Grade fours championships.  Sectional winners in the men’s open were Peter Bannister, Paul Mitchell, Jacob Sherrin-Wall, Mark Nitz, Peter Jenkins, Chris Roach, Mitch Banks and Mark Strochnetter.   In the open women, Dee Harman, Jill Silvey, Rae Simpson, Maree Morgan, Makayla Gibson and Valma Carey are through to tomorrow.   In the men’s B Grade sectional winners were Kevin Mann and Owen O’Driscoll.
