Big Increase in Numbers for First of 2021 State Championships

by Rick Fontyn on January 9, 2021

Nearly 450 competitors from right around Tasmania have entered the first of the 2021 Bowls Tasmania State Championships, which gets underway this Sunday in Southern Tasmania.

Players will battle it out in the following events:

  • Men’s & Women’s Triples
  • Mixed Pairs
  • Bowling Arm Singles & Pairs
  • Junior Boys & Girls Singles & Pairs

The event will be hosted by the Beltana Bowls Club, with other support venues including Howrah, Rosny Park, Claremont, New Norfolk and Buckingham Bowls Clubs.

Bowls Tasmania CEO, Rebecca Van Asch is thrilled to see bowlers register, particularly after such a challenging 2020.

“Overall entries are up 25% on last year, with the Men’s and Women’s Triples up 30% & 20% respectively, and we have seen a similar increase in the Mixed Pairs”, Van Asch said.

“We also have nearly 130 entered in the Juniors and Bowling Arm Singles & Pairs which is fantastic,” Van Asch added.

It’s a busy period coming up for the state’s best bowlers, with the State Senior Championships to be held in Burnie in February, and the Singles, Pairs, Fours, Disability and B-Grade Championships to be held in Launceston in March.
