Season’s Greetings

by Rebecca Van Asch on December 23, 2020

Dear Fellow Bowlers

Firstly; on behalf of the Board and Staff of Bowls Tasmania may I wish each and every one of you a very happy and safe festive season and a prosperous and fulfilling new year.

This time of year is traditionally a time of reflection where we take time to look into the rear view mirror on the year that has past.

2020 will certainly go down in history as one that has tested our resolve in all ways. As a Country, State, Organisation and as individuals we have been confronted and challenged by a crisis called COVID 19 in ways that we have not seen in our lifetimes. Our lives have been turned upside down and shaken vigorously. We are now left with a life somewhat different and one that sees a different set of rules for us to follow. I believe that we can all take pride in the fact that we as a Bowling community have accepted the challenges and done all asked of us to ensure that we are able to get through this and provide a safe environment for us as we move forward and enjoy the sport we love.

In the world of Lawn Bowls we were somewhat fortunate in Tasmania in that our season for 2019 / 2020 was able to run through the roster. It was unfortunate that we were not able to complete finals. Our winter competitions were a little late in getting underway but most managed to get people back on the Green which was indeed pleasing.

At the time of writing, we are all watching events in Sydney and NSW with the hope that the latest outbreak can be bought under control quickly and does not cause to much disruption to us.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all State, Regional and Club Board Members and volunteers who have worked tirelessly throughout this whole episode to ensure that our clubs and facilities survived this challenge. The work done to make us COVID safe was enormous and not to be underestimated. Thank you one and all.

One of the major priorities for the Board of Bowls Tasmania for the year will be to make it easier for people of all ages to become involved with our sport. As 2021 fast approaches we look forward to some exciting new initiatives and announcements taking place.

In closing, once again enjoy the short break over the Christmas period and I look forward to seeing on the Green or around your Club in 2021.

Cheers and Good Bowling
