Statewide Challenge – Juniors
Today at Longford, the first round of the Juniors Statewide Challenge was held. Teams of 10 played a morning and afternoon match in either the Pairs or Triples followed by the Singles and Fours.
A very closely fought morning section saw the North take the upper hand winning 3 of their 4 matches, whilst the South would win 2 and the North West 1. The Northern Triples teams both got wins on the board defeating the South 23-9 & the North West 20-11. In the remaining Triples game the South defeated the North West 16-12. The Pairs were split between the regions, the North West def the North 21-12, The North defeating the South 16-14 & the South def the North West 26-12.
The North West had a much better afternoon, with 3 wins and a draw from their 4 matches, the North won 2 matches and the South could only manage a draw. The North West were undefeated in their two singles matches with Kyron Daly & Blair Fidler winning 21-20 & 21-13 respectively. The North won the remaining singles game 21-13 over the South. In the Fours matches the North West team skipped by Codi Marshall had a 20-10 victory over the North. The North West & the South couldn’t be split finishing at 12-12 whilst the North were convincing winners 18-8 in the final match.
This now sees the North take the early lead on 15 points, the North West have 13.5 points whilst the South trail on 7.5 points.
