Tassie Men claim the Bishop/Singleton
Our Tasmanian Open Men’s and Women’s teams are currently in Adelaide getting ready to contest the Australia Sides Championships in the annual battle of the states and territories commencing tomorrow.
The Tasmanian team, officially known as the Henselite Tigers are proud to announce a new partnership with Australian owned and operated company, Henselite. The Bowls Tasmania preferred Bowls Manufacturer has been producing bowls since 1918 and are still going strong together providing bowls for some of the World best.
The Henselite Tigers kicked off their campaign today in the bi-annual test series against Queensland, which is both an official test series and a warmup of sort before the big show.
The Tassie men came away with two wins from two today and have claimed the Bishop/Singleton Shield from the maroons for the first time since 2007. The mornings first match was a close affair with the Tigers leading by 1 overall leading into their final rinks last end, with the Mark Nitz skipped rink claiming a further 2 shots to claim the overall victory by 3 shots.
Our men were more dominant in the afternoon match with the Michael Sims skipped rink jumping out to a 18-3 lead at about the halfway mark. Backed up further with a strong win by the Lee Schraner rink, the Tassie men wrapped up the series and will be looking to make it a white wash when they play Queensland in the third and final match during the Ally Shield on Saturday at 9am.
Our women came out of the blocks early this morning winning two rinks and winning the first test, with a fantastic performance by the Candice Hodgetts skipped rink playing together in an official match for the first time after he late call up to replace the unavailable Bree Mabb.
The Tiger Girls were looking to follow in the men’s footsteps and claim the second test to walkaway with the series, however the Queenslanders had other ideas and came away with a 2 rink victory to keep the series alive before the deciding match in the Marj Morris on Saturday morning.
The Henselite Tigers will be in action tomorrow morning at 9am in the first match of the Sides Championships when they take on ACT followed by Northern Territory in the afternoon second round.
