Tasmanian Open Team Announced
Bowls Tasmania are pleased to announce the 2017 Tasmanian Team to compete in the Australian Sides Championships at Lockleys Bowls Club, South Australia from April 6th – 9th 2017.
The women’s team remains unchanged from the line-up that defeated ACT in a 5 test series at the end of January. The team is full of youth and experience spearheaded by Tasmania’s most capped female player Rebecca Van Asch, who will be joined in her rink by Courtney Hobbs, Deb Lee and Erin Sesara with over 300 national games between the rink.
Lyn Triffitt will be joined by 2016 Tasmanian Women’s Bowler of the Year Kim Saunders, 2017 Tasmanian Singles Champion Rae Simpson, and 2017 Tasmanian Pairs Champion Alison Venn. While Bree Mabb will skip the third rink with 2016 Tasmanian Pairs Champion Hollie Keen backing her up as third, 2017 Tasmanian Pairs Champion Dee Harman and East Launceston’s Maureen Zoon leading them off.
The men’s team sees only one change from the team that also won the series against ACT last month, with 2017 Tasmanian Men’s Singles Champion Taelyn Male forcing his way into the team after going through the Veolia State Wide Challenge undefeated. Male will play third to NTC Squad Member Michael Sims, with Penguin’s Aaron Page and Chris Dudman taking care of the front end.
Tasmania’s most experienced men’s player, Lee Schraner will skip Robert McMullen, Andrew Whitmore and Scott Summers with more than 400 games experience between the rink. Burnie’s Mark Nitz and Patrick Smith will take care of the back end of the third rink with young guns Bradley Gibson and Lachie Sims up front for them.
Congratulations to those players selected.
