Bowls Tasmania is pleased to announce our new partnership with the Devonport City Council for 2016/17.

The Devonport City Council have been wonderful supporters of Bowls in Tasmania in previous years and have enhanced this support even further for this season.

In recent years Bowls Tasmania, has grown the Tasmanian Open Championships in size and entries back to the “good old days” of the sport with the introduction of the Gala Week of Bowls.

“We have worked really hard in recent years to develop our Gala Week of Bowls and we are confident with the terrific support of the Devonport City Council we will see continued success in this event” said Bowls Tasmania CEO Rebecca Van Asch.

The Gala Week of Bowls includes the hosting of the Tasmanian Open Men’s and Women’s Singles, Pairs and Fours in an action-packed week of bowls from the 2nd – 8th January 2016.  This includes the Satellite Series on days 4 – 6 of the event for those players no longer in the main draw of some disciplines.

Devonport Bowls Club will be the hosts for this event, while Spreyton, East Devonport and Viewmont Bowls Clubs will all act as support clubs during this event, including hosting the Satellite Series’.

Devonport Mayor, Alderman Steve Martin said “Devonport City Council is delighted to partner with Bowls Tasmania to assist in bringing their 2017 Gala Week events to Devonport”.

“We invite Devonport businesses to get in the spirit of Bowls Gala Week, by creating bowls themed window displays, in support of the competitors and the event”.

Event merchandise will also be available for purchase during this time from Devonport Bowls Club.

2017 will also see the introduction of our Tasmanian Disability Championships being staged with the open championships on January 7th and 8th 2017.  This will allow players of all abilities the opportunity to participate in a fun filled week of bowls.

Players may enter both the open and disability championships (if eligible), however please be aware that if there is a clash of scheduling on these days then players will be required to make a choice which event they will play in.
