Tasmanian Junior Team Announced

by admin on August 15, 2016

Bowls Tasmania are pleased to announce the Tasmanian Junior
Teams that will be playing in the Australian Junior Championships from
September 30th to October 3rd at Holdfast Bay Bowls Club
in Adelaide.
The boys team shows a team of experience with 4 of the 5
boys having played at an Australian Junior Championships previously.  Isaac Maughan will be playing in his first
Nationals when he leads in the fours and triples after making his debut for
Tasmania last month in the annual test series against Victoria.
Julian Brown has been elevated to the skips position in the
boys triples and fours disciplines after a strong campaign against
Victoria.  Brown showed maturity beyond
his years in keeping a level head and keeping cool under pressure in the last couple
of ends of the event to assist Tasmania in holding on the Stuart/Jackman
shield.
Lachlan Sims and Josh Appleyard retain their spots in the
team and after having a taste of silver last year in the pairs event, they will
no doubt be looking to go one better this year in their respective
disciplines.  Sims will this year play
the coveted singles role as well as skip the pairs again.  While Josh Walker-Davis will round out the
five boys earning his spot back in the team after being named as the emergency
last year.
The girls team will be headlined by Tasmanian women’s pairs
champion Mikayla Fuller who is the most experienced player in the girls team
having played at the last few National events.
Fuller will play the blue ribbon singles event for the first time and
will skip the pairs, an event she claimed a silver medal in in 2014 when she
lead for Makayla Gibson.
Ebony White has become a staple part of the girls team after
debuting in 2015 and will take on the skips role in both the triples and fours
disciplines.  She will get to play with
sister Amy in the fours in Amy’s first Australian Junior Championships in what
will no doubt be a huge thrill for the White family.
Logyn Curtis has also retained her spot in the girls team
after debuting last year in Canberra and she will be joined by Alanna Kalbfell
in her first Nationals after debuting against Victoria last month.
Good luck to our entire junior contingent in the quest for
glory.
