2016 Tasmanian Open Squads

by admin on January 11, 2016

Bowls Tasmania have today announced the 2016 Tasmanian Open Squads.
All players that competed in the recent Tasmanian versus Victoria Test Series have retained their positions in the squad.  In the men’s squad Lachie Sims has been elevated to the open squad after a strong State Championships performance last week in Hobart, while Luke Richardson is back in the squad after returning to Tasmania this season after a stint representing Western Australia.  Notable absences from the squad include Mark Strochnetter and Cameron Tegg after they chose to withdraw from the original squad at the start of the season for personal reasons.
In the women’s squad Mikayla Fuller has also been elevated into the Open squad after a great 2016 Tasmanian Open Championships that saw her runner up in the fours and claim the open pairs title with fellow squad member Hollie Keen.  While Gaylene Elsworthy made a comeback last week in the State Championships claiming the Tasmanian Fours Title and runner up in the pairs after a hiatus from the sport due to knee surgery and has earned a berth back in the Open Squad along with Senior State player Carol Bannister also re-entering the squad.
From these two squads of 16 players a final team of 12 men and 12 women will be selected to represent Tasmanian at the 2016 Australian Sides Championships at the end of March.
