Day 3 of the Australian Senior Sides Complete

by admin on October 13, 2015

Queensland have 1 hand on the women’s trophy at the Australian Senior Sides Championships being held at the North Launceston Bowls Club.  They are the only undefeated team in the competition and only need to secure one of their two games tomorrow to seal the deal on the overall honours, when they take on second place Victoria and defending champions Western Australia.
Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and the ACT sit in equal second on game wins and are only separated at this time by rink wins.  They will fight it out tomorrow to see if one of them can jump into first or secure the silver medals.  Our Tasmanian’s claimed a hard fought victory against the ACT this afternoon by a solitary shot with the rink of Yvonne Buckley, Sonia Martyn, Robyn Leggett and Gail Thow the only rink to win and carry the overall result.
The men’s event saw the upset of the tournament in round 4 this morning when Western Australia defeated the powerhouse New South Wales team on two rinks and 8 shots overall.  The WA men’s team have now jumped into top spot on the overall ladder, with only shot difference separating them.  Western Australia, New South Wales and Victoria all share equal wins and equal rinks wins to set up an exciting day tomorrow when they face their last two rounds of the competition.
Our Tasmanian men face two of the equal leaders tomorrow when they play New South Wales in the morning round and Western Australia in the afternoon match.  The tigers will be out to cause a few upsets after jumping into fifth spot on the overall leader board after claiming a clean sweep of rinks against ACT this afternoon to win their second overall for the Tournament.
