Tas vs QLD Test Series

by admin on April 8, 2015

Tasmania took on Queensland today in the biannual test series between the 2 States.  Today saw Tests 1 and 2 contested, while the third test will be conducted when both teams meet one another in the Sides Championships on Thursday afternoon.
In the men’s event it was the Tigers that came out of the blocks flying claiming the first test overall 59-51, with the rink of Lee Schraner, Aaron Page, Scott Summers and Chris Dudman as the sole rink winners for Tassie and securing the overall victory.  However this afternoon the maroons fought back and claimed the honours in test two with an overall 73-54 win.  The rink of Mark Strochnetter, Tim Douce, Darren Monks and Chris Roach were this afternoon’s only victor by a solitary 1 shot.  With 1 test apiece the men’s shield will be decided tomorrow afternoon in the second game of the Australian Sides Championships when the two States meet again.
Wayne Manson was called in to substitute this afternoon’s game when Lee Schraner had to withdraw due to injury.  Manson, who played his 85th game for Tasmania this afternoon, lead the rink while Chris Dudman took over the reigns as skip.
The women’s series however has already been wrapped up two tests to nil in Queensland’s favour.  This morning couldn’t have been much closer with only a mere 1 shot separating the two teams.  The rink of Rebecca Van Asch, Nicole Smith, Hollie Keen and Erin Sesara were the only Tassie women’s rink winners for the morning, however it wasn’t enough to get the overall team over the line.  The second test saw the QLD ladies win on all three rinks to secure the series.
