A Guide to the Australian Sides Championships
This week sees our Tasmanian Open Men’s and Women’s Teams head to Perth, Western Australia to compete in the annual Australian Sides Championships. The event, often referred to as Bowls’ Traditional Battlefield, sees the best 12 men and women from each State and Territory fight it out to see who will claim the men’s Ally Shield and the women’s Marj Morris Trophy.
Before our Tigers kick off for the main event, starting on Thursday 9th April at the Yokine Bowls Club, they will first take on Queensland in the Bi-Annual Bishop/Singleton Shield Test Series. The two states will contest two tests tomorrow, while the third and possibly deciding test will be conducted when the two sides meet in the National Competition in Thursday Afternoons Match. This first Test will mark a particularly special occasion for our two youngest members of the team, Makayla Gibson and Hollie Keen, who both make their debuts in the Open Team.
You can follow live updates of each and every match the Tasmanian Teams play throughout the Championships and also tomorrow’s test match, from our roving reporters AKA loyal supporters that have come all the way to Perth to cheer us on. These will be posted by individuals on the Facebook Group; Bowls in Tasmania Updates.
After every match final scores will be posted on the official Bowls Tasmania Facebook Page, which you can view even if you are not on Facebook, simply by visiting the www.bowlstasmania.com.au home page and reading the updates on the right hand side of the page in the Facebook box.
These results will also be posted on the Bowls Tasmania website each evening. However please be mindful that Western Australia is 2 hours behind Tasmanian time when waiting for updates.
