State Triples Champions
The Bowls Tasmania State Open Triples Championships have been won and run today at the Devonport Bowls Club. Having commenced play yesterday at the Latrobe and Devonport Bowls Clubs, the men’s and women’s finals were bought together today and were held in great fashion with a strong turnout of spectators.
The women’s final was an all Latrobe battle with Erin Sesara, Janine Thompson and Anne Kingdon taking on Mary Beaumont, Glenys Webb and Bronwyn Horton. The Sesara Skipped combination progressed through to the final after a six shot victory of North West favourites Carina Daly, Judy Hope and Jenny Grandfield. While the Beaumont triple took the scalp of Courtney Hobbs, Deb Lee and Leonie Price who earlier won their way through a tough section defeating the reining champions.
Many tipsters were right when they said a Latrobe combination would win the final! With Sesara, Thompson and Kingdon taking the honours. This was the second State title for Erin this year after claiming the pairs in January, but this is her first State title as Skip.
The men’s triples proved to be a tight affair with David Minns, Ray Boutcher and Allan Gamble progressing through to the final by a solitary shot over former Australian Representative Lee Schraner, Grant Allford and Brad Gibson. While the young gun team of Daniel Baker, Josh Baker and Josh Mabb won their semi final by just 3 shots over Peter Jenkins, Dale Maundrill and Nick Ellis.
The final saw the North Launceston men of Minns, Boutcher and Gamble too strong for the young guns, finishing with one end to spare being 8 up. This continues a terrific season for David who also won the State Singles Title in January this year.
