Pairs Results – State Champs
The Douce brothers Tim and David have made their way into their second State final in as many days, this time into the Men’s State Pairs Final that will be played on Thursday 8th January. This comes off the back of their win yesterday in the fours with other brother Greg and father Hector. The Douce boys progressed through in great style with a 20-9 victory in the semi final against young Tasmanian Representatives Bradley Gibson and Michael Sims.
The other semi final saw a much closer encounter between Devonport duo Ben Fidler and Evol Kaine and Tasmanian Teammates Lee Schraner and Cameron Tegg. With scores locked at 15 all with one end to play, the shots seesawed throughout the last end, but it was Fidler and Kaine that prevailed to set up their grand final encounter against the Douce brothers.
Likewise in the women’s side of the draw, Rebecca Van Asch has won her way through to the women’s pairs final with partner Erin Sesara, after Van Asch secured back to back fours titles with her team yesterday. Van Asch and Sesara are attempting to win their maiden Tasmanian Pairs Titles after easing their way into Thursday’s final with a 28-2 victory over Howrah’s Denise Tanner and Daph Roberts
Their opponents will be last year’s semi finalists, Trevallyn’s Rae Simpson and Lyn Quarrell who also progressed through to the final with a strong showing of 27-13 against the North West Coasts Jenny Grandfield and Rose’Anne Howard in this year’s semi final.
Tomorrow will see the men’s and women’s singles continue at North Launceston Bowls Club.
