Tasmania Claims the French Holbrook.
The Tasmanian Open Men and Under 25 Women were our victors against Victoria in the annual Test Series as Rob Shaw reports for the Examiner.
THE Tasmanian open men’s team has claimed the French Holbrook Shield for just the sixth time in 35years.
Despite losing the dead rubber to Victoria at Trevallyn yesterday, the team won the series 3 to 1, following a draw in the second test.
It was the opposite story in the women’s series with Victoria winning the fifth test and the series 3-2 to reclaim the trophy.
The men’s 25s was won 2-1 by Victoria, while the women’s 25s went down to the last bowl of the day, which gave Tasmania a win in the third set and the series (2-1) for the first time.
Bowls Tasmania executive officer Steve Tomlin said the annual interstate clash had produced some excellent action over the week.
‘‘It was a really exciting finish to the women’s 25s on the last bowl and that was pretty fantastic for them,’’ he said.
‘‘The open women were playing catch-up for most of the day and were still a chance but fell away late.
‘‘This was the 49th running of the series and we’re looking forward to the 50th in Victoria next year.’’
Both the girls and boys 18s were won 3-0 by Victoria.
