Penguin Bowls Club have had one hell of a year, accomplishing the two ultimate prizes most Clubs would only dream to achieve, taking out both Tasmanian Saturday and Thursday Pennants top prizes.  As Rae Simpson reports for the Inside Bowls Online Magazine…
Perched on a hilltop overlooking the picturesque North West Tasmanian coastal town of Penguin sits a bowling club that is punching way above its weight.
Just recently, for the first time in its 85-year history, the Penguin Bowls Club captured the coveted State Pennant flags in both the Saturday Premiers League and Thursday Division One.
With a membership of just 126, Penguin has come a long way since it was born over a few beers in a local pub in 1927.  After recruiting well at the end on the 2012/13 season, the ‘Two Blues’ played in five North West Coast grand finals, winning three of them.
It was the women who went hunting for a state pennant title first, travelling to Hobart in early April to play against Invermay (Northern Pennant Winners), and Sand Bay (Southern Pennant Winners)…….
