Perched on a hilltop overlooking the picturesque North West Tasmanian coastal town of Penguin sits a bowling club that is punching way above its weight.
Just recently, for the first time in its 85-year history, the Penguin Bowls Club captured the coveted State Pennant flags in both the Saturday Premiers League and Thursday Division One.
With a membership of just 126, Penguin has come a long way since it was born over a few beers in a local pub in 1927. After recruiting well at the end on the 2012/13 season, the ‘Two Blues’ played in five North West Coast grand finals, winning three of them.
It was the women who went hunting for a state pennant title first, travelling to Hobart in early April to play against Invermay (Northern Pennant Winners), and Sand Bay (Southern Pennant Winners)…….
